Born John Barry Prendergast, in York 1933, he is best known for writing the James Bond theme tune. He has written music for over a hundred movies including sixties classics, musicals, dramas and modern romances. Barry has won five academy awards, 4 Grammys and numerous other prizes during his forty years in the film music industry, with such memorable scores written for The Lion in Winter, Midnight Cowboy, Out of Africa, and Dances with Wolves.  |
