Celebrating 40 Years of ITV in Yorkshire
The Results
On July 29th Yorkshire Television commemorated its milestone 40th birthday, and to celebrate this auspicious occasion the Yorkshire Icons Initiative asked you to vote on your favourite Yorkshire Television Icon from the past 40 years. We gave you a list of the 40 Yorkshire Icons chosen by Yorkshire Television and just one vote to use wisely.
The voting is now over, the results are out and you, the Yorkshire people have had your say. The Yorkshire Television Icon you unanimously voted for with around 25% of the votes was the well known and much loved Bradford born Countdown presenter, Richard Whiteley. Richard has always been popular with the Yorkshire people and soared ahead in the vote from the very start.
Coming in second place with 12% of the vote was the Barnsley born Stan Richards, best known for his portrayal of the lovable rogue Seth Armstrong in Emmerdale. Our 3rd placed Yorkshire television icon, David Jason, has no strong links with Yorkshire in real life, but featured in Yorkshire Television’s well known productions, The Darling Buds of May and A Touch of Frost.
